• A boy with one arm and one leg is holding a hamburger. He says, "This new food is awesome!" A girl with one arm and one leg is holding a smoothie. She says, "For sure! I'm only sorry I won't be able to afford any more after tomorrow night." The menu on the wall behind them reads, "WELCOME TO THE 50'S FISH BOWL" Menu items include "Cheeseburger, Milkshake, Chicken Sandwich, 1 Slider, 2 Sliders, 3 Sliders, Red or White Hot". The menu concludes, "ONE LOW PRICE!: AN ARM AND A LEG" (A smaller sign below reads, "Chicken tender special: Just your first-born child!")

    One Low Price!

    When Fisher’s new dining services first started, its prices at “Late Nite”, as it was called, were a bit astronomical. They got the hint pretty quickly, but not before I drew this little number. (Somewhere in my fantasies I like to imagine this cartoon helped influence that change.)

    This work originally appeared in the Cardinal Courier, the award-winning student-run newspaper at St. John Fisher College, between 2007 and 2011.
